SHOWCASE STATEMENT
by Prof. J. Marsh The College of Southern Nevada has a unique and comprehensive, all-digital videography and film program. This well-kept secret features three final-cut pro classrooms and state-of-the-art production equipment. Students entering the program can choose either a path of matriculation to another school, competency leading directly to the world of digital videography (or simply come and play in the desktop world of personal movie making.) Classes are offered in script writing, production, camera technique, editing with Final Cut Pro, lighting, sound and “movie comprehension.” Located on the Cheyenne Campus in beautiful North Las Vegas, the program is housed in the Media Technologies Building (shepherded by the Photo Department. All classes are listed under PHO.) This is the 5th year CSN (formerly CCSN) has formally participated in providing a showcase of films for viewing at CineVegas. The program gratefully acknowledges the support of CineVegas, a vibrant and continually growing cultural force in our community. The CSN Videography Showcase Program this year represents a cross section of representational product turned out by intermediate and graduating CSN students. Fiction films, documentaries, unclassifiable shorts and advertisements are all represented here. Professor John Marsh, director of the CSN program, glowingly report that ‘Our classrooms are full of students who simply want to make movies. We live in a changing postmodern world where movie making is akin to making music in the garage or publishing vitriolic tabloid articles on hidden printing presses. Because of the proliferation of good student work (not to mention the HDV/HD format) it was difficult to choose what to show this year. But, I want to be clear: what we are showing are not contest winners, just examples of what we are up to. It’s pretty neat, I think.” John and Bob (Benedetto - the other tenured F-T Video teacher) invite one and all down to the campus to check out what is happening. Call 702 651-2616 or 702 651-4121 for further information or write john.marsh@csn.edu / robert/benedetto@csn.edu. John and Bob would particularly like to thank the school and federal government for providing the program with Perkins’ Grant moneys which enable us to purchase proper and cutting-edge equipment for our students’ use. Special thanks to Norma Bucelato and Robin Corbin. Films in this screening include: Best is Yet to Come, Cereal Killers, CSN Promotional, El Gran Facination, El Mercenario (aka The Cowboy Film), Fine Time, Jesus, Jolly Good Fellow, Meat, Misc. Commercial Shorts, Nostalgia, Photoshop at CSN, Sanctuary, The Date, Vincent and the Smuts, Wires, Words of Courage, You Know I'm No Good |
